As of the end of December 2025, the total number of licensed pachinko parlors in Japan stood at 6,464, marking a decrease of 242 locations (3.6%) compared to the end of the previous year. This data was officially released by the National Police Agency (NPA) on April 23.
The total number of installed gaming machines reached 3,234,218, a year-on-year decline of 91,534 units (2.8%). While the number of pachislot machines saw a slight increase of 6,338 units, this was offset by a significant drop in pachinko machines, which decreased by 97,872 units. (Note: Total figures include both pachinko and pachislot machines, excluding smart ball and other minor categories).
An analysis of parlor counts by scale reveals a clear trend toward large-scale operations. Despite the overall loss of 242 parlors, the number of “Mega-parlors” with over 1,001 machines increased by 23, and mid-to-large-scale parlors (501–1,000 machines) grew by 31. Conversely, smaller establishments are rapidly disappearing. In particular, small-scale parlors with 100 machines or fewer nearly halved (a 47.3% decrease), falling to just 135 locations. These figures illustrate that the industry is undergoing a significant transition: a decrease in total parlor counts driven by the market shakeout of small-scale outlets, alongside a shift toward larger, consolidated venues.
When compared to December 2019, just before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the total number of parlors has plummeted by 32.9%, and the total number of gaming machines has shrunk by 22.9%.
